Forbes: ‘Apple Bites The Fans That Feed It’ PowerPage Down for Maintenance
Jan 14

Apple Mac miniPowerPage.org — Gizmodo has a story about one of the first efforts to install the new Mac mini in a car. (Am I the only one that wants to call it the iMac mini?) You know that it’s only a matter of time before the mini shows up on MTV’s Pimp My Ride.

The commodity nature of the Mac mini may be just what automotive hackers need to come up with a unified set of sensors, software, and hardware to turn road rockets into dork dragsters. - Gizmodo
Mac mini rear shotThe Mac mini seems like a natural for automotive applications but c4r h4×0rz should watch out for a few things: the mini’s massive AC adapter, sealed enclosure and fines for removing airbags to make room for LCDs - a no no in the U.S. kids.

What do you have in mind for your Mac mini?

I had a cube. It was a cool machine if you are really into Mac stuff. What I mean as that the cube required alot of patience and understanding. Again, I saw it at mac world and assumed it plugged into an outlet. Apple had hid the power supply behind the booth. Seeing it in a store I noticed the power supply, its the cube all over again. I think its cute, the price point is right but I just don’t need it unless it ships with a Tivo like app. I hope they are well received so that the Mac community doesn’t become the iPod community which seems to be happening more and more…

The size of the AC adapter should not matter for vehicle or other mobile applications since vehicles generally supply DC power, the Mini can simply be connected to a DC power source eliminating the need for a large AC “brick”.
